Property Accountant (Contract: 60-90+ days)

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Property Accountant with a strong background in multifamily property accounting, and a proven ability to manage multi-property financial operations. This role is responsible for property-level and corporate accounting across a portfolio of multi-family real estate assets, ensuring accurate financial reporting, clean reconciliations, and a timely month-end close.

Key Responsibilities
Reconciliation & Cash Management
- Manage and maintain clean and accurate internal bank reconciliations across multiple accounts.
- Oversee property cash, bank accounts, purchase cards, and ensure discrepancies are resolved promptly.
- Support efficient multi-property cash management, ensuring all financial activity is recorded and reconciled accurately.
General Ledger, Accruals & Month-End Close
- Prepare and review journal entries, balance sheets, and monthly accruals, including property taxes, insurance, and other major accounts.
- Support a timely and accurate month-end close for multiple properties.
- Assist in analyzing fluctuations and validating financial results across the property portfolio.
Real Estate / Property Accounting
- Manage the full accounting cycle for 5-6 multi-family properties (100-400 units each).
- Oversee property-level financial operations including rent/billing, bank reconciliations, and expense tracking.
- Prepare multi-property reporting packages and ensure accuracy of financial statements.
- Utilize property management/accounting systems to ensure high-quality financial data.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Experience
- 3+ years of multifamily property accounting experience (minimum).
- 5+ years of overall accounting experience.
- Strong background in:
- Reconciliation & cash management
- General ledger, accruals, and month-end close
- Multi-property real estate accounting
Software Expertise
- Prior experience using property management or real estate accounting software, such as:
- Entrata (Entrata experience is a strong plus!)
- Yardi
- MRI
- OneSite / RealPage
Industry Background
Experience in Property Management, Real Estate, or Construction is strongly preferred.
Education
- Bachelor's degree required
- Bachelor's in Accounting strongly preferred
